This year Bookfest included a wizardary theme to it, taking from what is sure to be a classic to future generations. The BCET was ecstatic to attended. While there, board members passed out age appropriate books to kids under 5. The other goal was to inform the public about the BCET "Growing with Books" program and encourage participation.

Hopewell Mini-Grant for “Battle of the Books”

The Beaver County Battle of the Books was held at the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit on May 9, 2017. Over 120 fifth and sixth grade students participated from seven districts across the county, including Ambridge, Beaver, Rochester, Central Valley, Hopewell, Riverside, and South Side Beaver. This event is a collaborative effort organized by school librarians and public librarians from the Beaver County Library System. Thanks to the BCET mini-grant funding, this year’s event featured a visiting author, Mr. Frederic Durbin. In January, the outreach coordination from Barnes and Noble, Selina Blinn, assisted Nicole Lash in purchasing 40 copies of Durbin’s book The Star Shard at $12.74 a piece. In turn, Mr. Durbin agreed to implement three thirty-minute activities for students during the Battle. These books were distributed to participating schools…

The Beaver County Educational Trust will have a booth at the Beaver County Bookfest. Come sign your pre-schooler up for the Growing with Books program. Find out what the BCET has been up to in 2015-2016. Did your child's teacher receive a Great Ideas Mini-Grant? Come find out. Kids are welcome to come color a page and get a free age appropriate book. Make sure to stop by between 10am and 4pm tomorrow!
