Reading Paw-tners

This project is designed to integrate reading assistance dogs into the classroom as reading companions. My intention is to find people who will allow their therapy dogs to match up with struggling readers in an effort to develop literacy while making connects in a therapeutic context. Programs such as these have been successful in other areas of the country (R.E.A.D in Tallahassee is an amazing program to immolate). While developing a pleasure for reading, children will learn to care for dogs, find social and emotional strength, and develop functional life skills. NEEDS: The students’ needs addressed will vary. There are educational needs, such as reading and literacy, and basic skill needs, such as doing laundry and caring for the dog's needs. There are social needs being met that involve interacting…

After attending the Social Thinking conference, we plan to use the knowledge attained there, along with licensed resources purchased, to train our Kindergarten teammates throughout the district on how to incorporate the social thinking models in their classrooms. We are confident that, by focusing on SEL at the primary level, it will strengthen our students' abilities to meet the goals set for them in the district-wide positive behavior plan that we will be putting into place in the fall of 2019. It will also compliment our Safe 2 Say Something program, which is an anonymous tip hotline for the Hopewell community to report suspected threats. NEEDS: Kindergarten marks the beginning of a child's educational journey. As Kindergarten teachers, we are tasked with the responsibility of providing a solid foundation upon…

Our project is focused on providing Opportunities/Exposure/Engagement of our teenagers here at Hopewell High School. We strongly feel that our students need of exposure to innovative methods to address overall health, wellness and nutrition. Implementing these initiatives will counter the effects of screen time and sedentary lifestyles of many of our teenagers. Our goal is to provide opportunities that will inspire and empower our teens to develop a healthy lifestyle that will jettison them into their future. According to Stephen Ritz, “it is easier to raise healthy children then to fix broken men”. Needs: We need to have our wellness facility open throughout all class periods encouraging student engagement during free time and study halls; We need to have our garden area open and accessible to all students, especially those…

The Richard Shaw IMPACT Grant launches today through the BCET. The new grant program is designed to provide real resources to Beaver County schools by leveraging the BCET's growing list of powerful donors looking for worthwhile educational projects. Cristine Wagner-Dietch, Programs Committee Chair, had this to say when asked about the new grant, The BCET seeks to connect teachers and their great ideas with potential donors interested in making an IMPACT in our community.-- Cristine Wagner-Deitch (Progams Committee Chair) The Richard Shaw IMPACT Grant, while new, is seen as a natural extension of the widely popular Great Idea Mini-Grant.
